Buying a PhotoPass
There are a few options for buying the PhotoPass. One way is if your purchase the Genie+ service. Purchasing Genie+ will give you access to all of your photos for the day for $20. If you are not wanting to use the other Genie+ benefits, have one person purchase it for the day. If you are not wanting to buy Genie+ but you still want the PhotoPass, you can purchase PhotoPass+ One Day for $20. Both of these options will allow you access to your photos from one day of your trip. These options are the best if you are only visiting the parks for 1 or 2 days.
If you are attending the parks for multiple days I would recommend purchasing the PhotoPass+ One Week. This will allow you to get unlimited photos for 7 consecutive days. This option costs $78. These 7 days start when you have your first photo taken and link it to the Disneyland App. Follow this link to purchase your PhotoPass.
Keep in mind your photos will delete off of the Disneyland app 45 days from the day the photo was taken. So be sure to download all of your photos as soon as you can so you don’t risk losing any of the special memories.

How PhotoPass Works
While you are visiting the Disneyland Resort, you will notice there are Cast Members with cameras. These are the PhotoPass photographers. When you find a spot you would like to take a photo, take a look around and see if there is a Cast Member with a camera. If so, you can go get in their line to have them take your picture. Sometimes you can hit it just right and there will be no line. In this case you will just walk up to the photographer and ask them to take your picture. If you see a photographer and are unsure what they are taking pictures of, feel free to ask them. When it is your turn you will take the photos then have the photographer scan the code located on your Disneyland app. Make sure to have the code pulled up on your phone before it is your turn to make the scanning go smoothly.
Fun Poses
While having your photo taken with a Disney Photographer, they will typically have you do fun poses. If you are in a group they will take photos with the whole group then ask if there are any other pairs or solo photos you would like. Some of the photos I have had taken with my family are group hugs, doing a “ta da” pose, and standing with our arms around each other. They have had my sister and I take photos where we are standing back to back with our arms folded. If you are a couple the photographer might have you take a photo hugging, or a kiss on the cheek. The more into it you are, the more the photographer will help you get magical photos.
Depending on the time of year and the location you are getting a photograph, the photographer will have other poses as well. If you are in Avengers Campus by the entrance sign, the photographers there have different poses based on some of the “worlds mightiest heroes” and villains. We have gotten pictures taken like Spider-Man, Wanda and Dr. Strange. If you have a favorite character, you can ask the photographer if you can take a picture doing their pose. During Halloween time some of the photographers will have you look scared or like zombies. During Christmas time by the Christmas tree they will sometimes have you turn around and look at the tree to get a magical photo.
Magic Shots
Sometimes when you have your photo taken, some magic appears when you see the photo in the app. Disney calls these surprise elements “magic shots”. The photographer will ask you to pose a specific way and before the picture is ready for download they will add a magical surprise. Sometimes it is a character and other times it is an object. We have been told to look up and point, and Peter Pan will be added flying above our heads. Another time we were sitting down and they added Mickey Mouse to join us in the picture. Other elements such as borders will be added to some of the photos as well. All of these elements add something extra special to the photos.
Whether you are by yourself or in a group the PhotoPass will give you fun and memorable photos to remember your vacation by. So, next time you visit the Disneyland Resort don’t miss out on purchasing. The PhotoPass.
