In Southern California the temperatures can be high. In the Disney parks, the temperature is usually 10 degrees hotter than the weather actually says. I have found multiple tips that can help you stay cool and enjoy your time in the parks even when it’s hot.
Packing Essentials for the Heat
When I am headed to Disneyland there are a few things I make sure to take to help beat the heat. Below is a list of items I make sure to bring on my trip.
1. Sunscreen
2. Snap towels - Amazon
3. Refillable water bottle
4. Cool and light clothing
5. Hats
Drink Lots of Water
With the high temperatures in California, you will want to make sure to drink lots of water while you are in Disneyland and California Adventure. It is easy to get distracted enjoying the magic and forget to stay hydrated. When I don’t have enough water I have found I don’t enjoy my time in the parks as much. To help you stay hydrated, I recommend taking a reusable water bottle or cup that keeps your water cold. This way you don’t have to pay for a new water bottle every time you run out of water. There are water stations throughout both parks where you can fill up your water bottle. I find it easier to drink lots of water when I am not having to pay for it each time. On Disneyland's website they have a map of water bottle filling stations throughout the resort.
Go Back to the Hotel During the Middle of the Day
The middle of the day can become brutally hot in the parks. When the heat becomes too much for me, I usually head back to the hotel to take a rest and be out of the sun for a while. What I try to do is be at the parks right when they open and enjoy the lower temperatures of the morning. Then in the afternoon I head back to the hotel to rest. After I have cooled off and am re-energized, I return to the parks towards the evening when it isn't as hot. Even though I am not in the parks for a couple hours I still feel I get a lot done during the day because I'm not dragging from the heat. Going back to the hotel in the middle of the day helps me enjoy the morning, late afternoon, and evening so much more than if I stayed all day in the heat.
Activities to Enjoy in the Air Conditioning
The Animation Studio
One of my all time favorite things to do when it is hot at the Disneyland Resort is visit the Animation Studio in California Adventure. This building is air conditioned and there are a lot of activities to enjoy. Inside you can enjoy a huge room with lots of room to sit on the floor. Here you can watch your favorite Disney cartoons start off as initial drawings and turn into amazing animation. In the Animation Academy, you can learn how to draw some of your favorite characters from talented Disney Cast Members. If you ever wondered which character you are most like, you can visit the Beast’s Library and take a quiz to find out. There are 3 more rooms inside the Animation Studio with fun activities. You can meet Anna and Elsa from Frozen in one. Explore how animation is brought to life in the Sorcerer’s Workshop. Lastly, you can enjoy having a chat with Crush from Finding Nemo during Turtle Talk with Crush.
Mickey’s PhilharMagic
Mickey’s PhilharMagic in California Adventure is a cute 3D show with some of your favorite Disney characters. You can enjoy air conditioning while you watch this cute and funny show. It is the perfect place for the whole family to cool off.
Disney Junior Dance Party!
The little ones in your group will love to party and dance with some of their favorite Disney Junior characters. This is a great place for you and your kiddo to beat the heat in California Adventure while playing with some unique characters.
Golden Horseshoe
Throughout the day at the Golden Horseshoe in Disneyland, you can find a piano player entertaining the crowd. I love to get one of the ice cream treats and sit down and listen to this amazing musician. This is always a great way to cool down while you enjoy a little show.
Eat or Drink Cold Treats
The Disneyland Resort has many delicious cold treats. There are fruity drinks, ice cream, frozen lemonade, ice pops, and more. Check out the Disneyland App to see what treats are offered at the different restaurants and snack carts. Eating a cold treat while walking around or while you are waiting in line for a ride can help keep you cool.
